Well Done Rochdale Council
Due to see much more use than normal in the next ten days because of the level crossing closure, Smithy Bridge Station subway was in a parlous state on Wednesday 15th January 2014 when I examined it.
I asked Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) Highways Maintenance for help, and on Friday 17th the site was visited first by an Environmental Management team which cleared away leaf mould, mud and even broken glass before being followed by a Drainage Maintenance jetting team which cleared all the drains.
At 1600(ish) Saturday 18th when I visited, the result was a pleasure to see, that impression being enhanced by observing people being able to use the facility freely without picking their way cautiously through the mess.
The attached before and after pictures speak for themselves.
RMBC Highways Maintenance's organisation of this work has the praise and gratitude of STORM for the efficient and speedy attention it has given to this problem. (A STORM member.)
