First Passenger Tram Arrives At Shaw and Crompton
The first passenger Metrolink service came into Shaw around 7.00 on Sunday morning the 16th of December 2012, As passengers got off, they were welcomed to Shaw and Crompton by the town crier, Andrew Powell. Shaw and Crompton had a railway station until October 2009, and in the meantime it has been preparing for the arrival of the Metrolink system. Passengers can now travel direct by tram from Shaw and Crompton, via Oldham and Manchester Victoria, for main line train services, the City centre and The Bridgewater Hall and on to Chorlton and in the future to East Didsbury and Manchester Airport.
