Rochdale Station: A New Begining
Recent visitors to Rochdale Station will have been able to use the newly re-opened subway, see pages below, with the original aspects restored.
STORM’s archivist, Richard S Greenwood, has photographed the station for over 50 years.
The 3 photographs here, taken in 19 68, are typical samples of the past, Rochdale Station had 8 platforms in regular use at this time.
This year a new platform has been added, a bay West facing, which will allow train services to ‘turn back’ towards Manchester Victoria, which in turn will free up capacity at Victoria.
Services will, by 2019, go ‘cross City’ to destinations such as Chester, and via the Ordsal chord, to Manchester Airport.
