1980s Excursion: Help Our Archivist
The excursion in the photographs here was the subject of a quest from our archivist, R S Greenwood, for details of its origin, date etc. here are some observations from STORM members. Do you have any memories of this trip?
“From the location, the train consist and the weather, I suspect that the image represents 40122 (not D200) + 47555 "The Commonwealth Spirit" hauling a return Carlisle-Stalybridge charter at 1842 on 15.05.1985.
(I was at Ladyhouse Lane at 1840).” AS

TRAINTOURS Charter starting at STALYBRIDGE and heading to Carlisle via Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester, Bolton, Chorley, Farrington Junction, Blackburn, Hellifield and then The S and C to Carlisle.
Train returned from Carlisle via Penrith and Lancaster to Manchester, Rochdale, Oldham and Stalybridge.
The coaching stock was air cons so 47555 was put inside the class 40 to heat the train Headcode for the train was 1L00 Cheers” JS
“Can anyone make out the headboard? Something is nagging at me that the Brush is 47615 which was named with a bilingual welsh and English name.” SP
