SUMMIT TUNNEL 175TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Littleborough Station.
The Littleborough Historical and Archaeological Museum on the station will be open from 09:30 to 12:30.
The band of the Holy Trinity C of E primary school will play from 09:45
10:15 The Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Surindar Biant will formally open the small exhibition.
10:20 Speeches by Keith Whitmore, Roy Chapman (and possibly Prof Salveson) and cutting of the birthday cake.
10:53 Party joins the train from Littleborough to travel through the tunnel. Points of interest pointed out.
11:09 Train arrives at Hebden Bridge Change Platforms.
11:18 Train departs Hebden Bridge for Littleborough.
11:34 Train arrives Littleborough.
11:35 Cups of tea and time for networking and reminiscing.
12:30 Close.
The Fire Service Museum will be attending at Littleborough with a photo display and a fire engine.
There will be a photo display at Bury Transport Museum from 29 February for a couple of weeks.
The Summit Inn played a big part in the building of the tunnel. All meetings between Directors, Engineers etc took place at the Inn.
There will also be an exhibition and celebration at the Jubilee Refreshment Room at Sowerby Bridge Station all day.

Copies of the excellent book "A Pennine Pioneer, The History of Summit Railway Tunnel" by Allen Holt published by George Kelsall in 1999 will be on sale on special offer at £5.
