New Class 195 Service from Rochdale
Northern Railway are introducing new trains (Class 195) on the `Leeds to Chester service which runs via Rochdale on the 21st October 2019. A special train, formed of 195 103, to introduce them, was run on 9th October from Manchester Victoria to Rochdale and back for local guests including His Worship the Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Billy Sheerin, a STORM member, and the Mayoress.
Among the Stakeholders were STORM members Richard S Greenwood MBE and Richard Lysons chair of The Friends of Littleborough Stations.
STORM Chair's view of the new units:-
"
The acceleration was impressive and without much engine noise. The train clattered a bit over crossings and junctions, probably more than a class 150 but far, far less than a Pacer.
For someone who earned the nickname of "Skinny" at school, lack of personal padding means the seats are on the hard side (as for some unfathomable reason all new trains are these days -- Oh for the Mark I’s and HSTs).
Outside noise levels were very good even when passing trains at speed. The compressor noise when the train was standing reminded me of the old Manchester-Bury electrics (1916 build) but without the "thumping" noise.
The interior layout and decor is attractive."
