TFGM recognises STORM's work
TRANSPORT FOR GREATER MANCHESTER COMMITTEE REPORT FOR RESOLUTION SUB COMMITTEE: Metrolink and Rail Networks DATE: 1 July 2011 SUBJECT: Local Rail Service Performance and Station Issues REPORT OF: Bus and Rail Director, Transport for Greater Manchester Item 2 Endorse the need for Northern Rail to strengthen Calder Valley services on Sundays to reduce overcrowding and for strengthening of services on weekdays to be provided on a more consistent basis. G.5 Sunday Overcrowding Overcrowding on some Calder Valley Sunday train services in the Greater Manchester area on Sundays has reached unacceptable levels. TFGM recognises the assistance the STORM rail users group has given in providing local monitoring information about usage levels. TFGM has been working with Northern Rail to examine options to relieve the overcrowding as soon as possible. Whilst in the longer term it might be possible to provide additional services, the more immediate solution would seem to be provision of additional carriages on existing trains. Northern Rail has been asked to implement this solution as soon as possible and Members are asked to endorse this request in view of the difficulties arising from the overcrowding.
